Carb consumption and Alzheimer’s
This post is gonna blow your mind! Top neurologist, Dr. David Perlmutter lays the blame for Alzheimer’s disease on CARBS. He calls them poison to the brain ……… and not just white flour and sugar but even fruit and “healthy whole-grains” too.
Consuming carbs eats away at your brain and affects memory and brain function. Wow!
In his controversial new book, Brain Grain, he says we can control our destiny and avoid getting Alzheimer’s by cutting the carbs.
For years we have been depriving our bodies of what it desperately needs – healthy fats. Instead, we have dramatically increased carb consumption and have just become sicker.
He says, as your belly grows your brain shrinks. Yikes, maybe we should all take our waist circumference a bit more seriously. Could those spongy muffin tops that hang out of our jeans, literally make us “soft in the head” too?
Carbs, inflammation and disease
It is becoming more widely accepted that the over-consumption of carbs and resulting high blood sugar is responsible for diseases such as obesity, heart disease, cancer and diabetes. Now we can add brain disease to the list too (for example MS, Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s). And it has all got to do with inflammation.
He states: We need to get the fat back onto our plates. Fats put out the fire of inflammation in our bodies. Butter, coconut oil, eggs, olive oil, grass-fed meats, nuts and avocados are healthy. Children with ADHD show marked improvement in their school performance 1 to 2 weeks after reducing the grains and including more healthy fat into their diets. Patients suffering from depression and insomnia show dramatic improvements as well.
Damage caused by carbs is reversible
Fortunately brain damage caused by carbohydrates can be reversed. You don’t have to endure the frustration of not remembering where you put your car keys or spectacles.
You don’t have to lose those precious memories gathered over the course of a lifetime.
You don’t have to endure the loss of dignity that goes with a devastating disease like Alzheimer’s.
Dr Perlmutter appeared on the Dr Oz Show recently and this 10 minute video clip from the show will explain it in more detail for you. It is definitely worth a watch so please take the time.

Always so appreciate the healthy nutritional feedback. Without a doubt cutting carbs can only benefit ones all round health. A sensitive subject diseases. Alzheimers I have seen closely genetic.
