Banting bread recipe and why its better

Bread is such a staple. Whether it is for your morning toast or your lunchtime sarmie, most people can’t fathom how to get by without their “daily bread”. Well first off, it is possible, as there are honestly so many options one can incorporate in place of bread – you just have to get a little creative. Secondly, you don’t have to go without if you don’t want to (cue big sigh of relief !) Going grain-free , sugar-free and low-carb isn’t about depriving yourself of the foods you enjoy. One just needs to use healthy substitutes. In this post I share a delicious bread recipe and also try and explain why regular bread (even the whole grain, low GI kind) is not as good as the food industry would make you believe. Paleo mayo recipe and why it’s better

Once I truly understood how completely toxic oils such as sunflower, safflower and canola were for you, I started reading food labels very carefully. Almost EVERYTHING that is processed and packaged has these vegetable oils in them. Biscuits, margarine, salad dressing and mayo to name just a few.  I know, I know we have all been brainwashed into believing that these vegetable oils are better for you than “artery clogging saturated fat” such as butter, coconut oil and lard. Struggling to lose that stubborn belly fat?

You have done sit ups till your abs feel like they have been run over by a bus. You have sweated yourself silly on the treadmill.  You have diligently cut down on calories. And where has that left you? Let me guess – probably sore, exhausted and hungry. Yet for all your concerted efforts you are still sporting a flabby “moon-bag” pouch of fat on your tummy area and those muffin tops have gained a life all of their own. Don’t you want to just scream with frustration?  An article that I read this week, written by Dr. Mercola, shed some light on this problem that many people experience and get frustrated by. This post looks at some of the things you might be doing wrong and what you could try to alleviate yourself of the burden of belly fat. Read the rest of this entry

Want to join the fight against obesity?

I believe there is no such thing as a bad decision. Bad decisions are mere consequences of poor information available to you at the time of making that decision. I have made many epically bad decisions in my lifetime with regards to losing weight. The desperate need to want to be slim also definitely clouded my judgement many times. I have put my body through every fad diet under the sun and I am still doing damage control for those decisions. Throw in years of fertility treatments and a good dose of chronic stress and I have ended up with a serious hormonal imbalance that makes it near impossible for my body to let go of its excess weight. Are your hormones making you fat?

A few weeks ago I was introduced to the term “estrogen dominance”. I had no idea what it meant but after doing some reading on the subject I was intrigued. Could this be the reason why so many women who are 35 and older, struggle with stubborn weight gain that no amount of diet and exercise can get rid off? To add insult to injury, estrogen dominance can also manifest itself in a host of different physical, mental and emotional ailments such as anxiety, depression, fatigue, breast tenderness, headaches, digestive disorders, foggy brain, gallbladder issues, memory loss, irritability, night sweats and low libido.  Wow! Who knew a hormonal imbalance could cause such havoc in your body. Let me share a little of what I have learned on this subject. Hopefully, it will provide you with useful information, especially if you can identify with some of the issue listed above. Read the rest of this entry
